Joanna Lovering Wants To Help You Put Your Best Self Forward

_MG_0165-3 - Joanna Lovering

Tell us a bit about yourself? I am the founder and CEO of Copper + Rise, a New York City-based style coaching service dedicated to personal and professional empowerment. Because of my background as an executive coach, I pair my passion for fashion with leadership development techniques to help clients rise to the next level.
How did you get started with your current career path/business journey?  My mother, who I was extremely close with, passed away suddenly on Mother's Day 2007 (yup, you read that right). Through both fantastic and poor career choices, weight gains and losses, and relationships come and gone, I've spent the past 12 years on a path of self-discovery, acceptance, and thoughtful inquiry. I’ve done some tough reflection (with the help of an amazing therapist), and have now landed in a place that truly feels like the right fit: as a femmentrepreneur with a business that sparks my passions and also gives me the chance to honor my mom's artistic legacy.
What is one thing you would tell your younger self? There are no limits to what you can achieve in this life. If someone tells you that you can't do something, they're showing *their* limits, not yours.
What's something you are currently proud of? I’ve been facilitating style coaching workshops, my next one being this Thurs., Oct. 17 at Luminary (“How To Shop, For People Who Hate Shopping”, get your ticket here). I spent a decade of my professional career facilitating management courses, and to be honest, I thought that part of my career was long over. But I’ve now realized there’s no reason why I can’t tap into my expertise to enhance my business. While I’m definitely embracing my role as founder + CEO, it will be energizing to tread in familiar waters, at least a little bit.
How are you inviting other women to take a seat at the table? I am a coach first and a fashion stylist second, so I have never seen fashion as “unattainable.” I invite you all to learn and apply your own unique ideas--sit at the fashion table! Everything I know about fashion is learned and if I can do it, you can too!
What impact has Luminary made in your career? Luminary has been a game-changer for my business! It is my primary go-to for expanding my personal and professional network, business events with experts, and like-minded women I just plain want in my life. Plus, I have a gorgeous, bright, airy space as my second home, especially important when I get cabin fever in my apartment! I am also incredibly grateful to Surabhi Lal for supporting my passions with workshops here at Luminary.
