In 2022, Luminary joined forces with Indeed and launched a research study to understand What Women Want in the Workplace. While it’s only been a year, the world – and the workforce/workplace - has changed.

Did you know there are more women in the workforce than ever before? Women's labor force participation has rebounded from the pandemic “she-cession” and returned to its pre-pandemic form with historic labor market gains. The economic evolution and recovery from the pandemic helped accelerate favorable drivers for women to enter or re-enter the workforce. However, glass ceilings remain.

While women are making historic strides in the labor market, plenty of barriers remain in place. Notably, they’re still making far less than men and women leaders are leaving corporate America at the highest rate in years. The gap between women and men leaving is the largest it’s ever been. But they aren’t leaving the workforce; they are in search of better opportunities, reevaluating their values and priorities, switching industries or becoming entrepreneurs. In 2020 and 2021, women accounted for 49 percent of new business launches.
