Tell us a bit about yourself! How did you get started with your current career path?

I’m Mika, a New York based business, trademark and employment attorney. After 15 years as a deeply unhappy litigator, I took a leap and started my own firm and shifted and expanded into transactional legal work. My firm was born out of a desire to support female founders in all things legal in a straight-forward, caring and sound way
all with a goal of also making legal counsel approachable and accessible and I've never been happier in my career!

How do you define success?

Success is often seen as tied to financial wealth but I believe success is determined by action and taking steps towards finding a measure of happiness and fulfillment in every aspect of one's life. One actively taking steps towards those things that bring them happiness and fulfillment whether that be in one's career, in their personal relationships- romantic, familial, friendship or otherwise, in pursuing leisurely things that bring one joy whether that be hobbies, activities or experiences. Finding a way to take action in all of those aspects of life and achieve whatever one's desired outcome, is success to me. Don't ever be a bystander to your life!

What's something you would tell your younger self when it comes to your career now knowing what you know today?

Spending years of your life in a job in which you are deeply unhappy and doing work that you don't remotely enjoy isn't worth it. Make a change. It may be scary but no matter where you land it'll be better than the alternative of staying stagnant and stuck in your career. Many things in life will be out of your control but your career isn't one of them.

How do you invite others to come sit at your table?

Anyone that comes into my orbit has a friend on their side. I'm always here to chat, brainstorm and to share any knowledge or wisdom that I may have.
